Thuy & Shawn's Wedding Story
Mon Aug 20, 2007

My name is Thuy and I was born in Vietnam.  My fiance's name is Shawn and he was born in Montreal, but his father has an Irish background and his mother has an English background.

Our wedding was on Jul 1, 2007 - Canada Day at Glencairn Golf Club.  It was suppose to just be a traditional roses and rose petals wedding.   As we started to put it together, it is now an "East meets West" wedding.

I wore a traditional white wedding dress from Taylor's Boutique (in Elora) for the exchanging of vows (veil with pearls, pearl jewellery, tiara).  I changed into a traditional Vietnamese red dress from Hong Kong Fashion (in Kitchener) with a white orchid in my hair, for after dinner to dance and PARTY!!!    My bridesmaids looked high and low and opted on something a little different to wear - ankle length, halter style (bare shoulders), white and lilac flowery print Cheongsam dresses.  The bouquets and cake are from "Any Occasion Theme Decorating & Bridal Manor" in Cambridge and consist of roses and orchids.  My bouquet was purple & white and my bridesmaids were pink, peache & purple.  I had found these cute floral-printed asian umbrellas in Toronto's China Town called Tai Tai's Import - white for myself, purple for the bridesmaids, and pink for the women of the families (mother of the bride & groom, sister-in-laws, aunt, and grandmothers)

The menu was perfectly prepared by the chef at Glencairn and was a mix of western appetizers, amazing eggrolls (which my mom made for our wedding. She gets compliments all the time and we think she should quit her day job and sell eggrolls for a living), salad, and chicken & salmon (east meets west). The midnight table was asian sweets (including sweet bean paste pastry, coconut cream cake and almond cookies) - all from the "Oriental Bakery" in Mississauga.

Decorations for the front of the reception/cocktail area consisted of an oriental black bird cage, paper lanterns, and oriental fans.  Guest favours were chinese take out containers from Michael's.  In the containers, there were chopsticks, asian spoons (both from Tai Tai's Imort on Dundas in China Town) and fortune cookies (chocolate & white chocolate & sprinkles).  One special fortune is personized to read "Confucius says: Thuy & Shawn will live happily ever after."
